Few myths about your batteries..

In this small post I'm going to give you some tips, so that you know something about your smartphone or Laptop battery.
                                                                                                             
There are two popular myths regarding batteries:

  • Keeping the battery plugged to the charger even after full charge, will damage the battery.
This used to work on those early age batteries like Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) batteries. The batteries that are used nowadays are Lithium Ion (Li-ion) Batteries that have built in protector circuits to limit peak voltage and as well as to cut off the supply once the charging process is complete.


  • Discharge the battery completely before charging to save the battery life.
This cycle of charging is also a very popular myth. This used to be an actual fact in case of NiCd batteries but these are not necessary for Li-ion batteries.


  • Turning Wifi, GPS and Bluetooth would prolong the battery
This is utter false, Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS Don't drain your battery on their own.you can leave them on as long as you want to. If something is draining your battery, then it's the apps downloading data in the background. So just turning these ON wouldn't harm in anyway.
  • So, which would be the ideal cycle for charging?

Discharging till around 50% and then charging it is probably better (Apple recommends this for their laptops).


  • Don't keep your batteries at extreme hot and cold temperatures. You may probably come across this on the sticker attached to the battery. So, the
